Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi announced a package of Rs. 20 lakhs crore on 12th May 2020 to revive the indian economy. The package is named as “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” and is about 10% of India’s total GDP.

The main objective of this “Abhiyaan” is to make India a self-reliant nation. The vision is fortified after discussions at various levels with ministries and Prime Minister Office. The primary aim of this initiative is to spur growth and build a self-reliant India after the corona virus crisis. Hence, the name “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan”.

The name of the initiative literally translates to Self Reliant India Initiative. Under this initiative citizens of India are encouraged to prefer indigeneous products over their imported counterparts.

Self-reliance does not mean that India will be cut off from the outside world. But to provide a worldwide platform to the local indigenous industries. This initiative has provided the initial courage to put India at the forefront of Globalization.

One of the main objectives of this initiative is to make India a prosperous country. The main beneficiaries of this scheme are farmers, poor citizens, migrant workers, small scale industries, cottage industries, fisherman, cattle ranchers, middle-class industries, tenants and people working in the organized and unorganized sectors.

A self-reliant country will have less dependability on other countries for its growth and survival. India being a self-reliant nation won’t have to look up for help from other countries on various needs but will provide for itself. It will make the nation stronger.

India being a resourceful country, it is the need of an hour to better channelise these resources. India has a young talented population who are filled with enthusiasm for entrepreneurship. They just need a guiding light and an initial support to help make India a better place.

In his speech at the red fort in New Delhi on August 15th, Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has defined the 5 pillars of self-reliance viz. Economy, Infrastructure, Technology, Demography, and Demand and Supply.

There are several benefits of being a self-reliant nation. Not only our industries will grow but also unemployment will be eliminated. This will ensure that the poverty rate will decline and the nation’s economy will strengthen.

Less imports and more exports will decrease the fiscal deficit of our country. More production will lead to more exports that will result in more income of foreign currency.

Under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan the victims of the lockdown due to CoronaVirus will be given compensation.
