No technology comes without disadvantages and this is true for computers as well. People get lazy by relying too much on computers and shy away from physical activities. The biggest problem with computers is that they can cause frustration or other side effects in children with age-inappropriate software. Children can be influenced by negative things like bad language, violence, etc. Computers have also sprung up new illegal activities like hacking, cyber-terrorism, phishing, online theft, etc.

“The computer was born to solve problems that did not exist before.”

Excessive use of computers also poses physical and mental health risks to children. People who spend more time working on computers are susceptible to excessive stress, eye strain, posture and skeletal problems. Many research studies show that computer screens can affect the eyes due to harmful radiation. Many children also report headaches when they increase their exposure to extremely bright computer screens.

“Computers and mobile devices are becoming known for their inherent insecurities and the ability to damage the long term health of the users.”

Steven Magee

Whether a computer is a blessing or a curse depends entirely on the person using it. Therefore, computers must be used ethically with appropriate technical knowledge. It should be viewed as an instrument for learning and improving skills, rather than looking at negative or unacceptable age content.
